How to be successful at affiliate marketing. Affiliate marketing just like any other job takes time, patience, work, and the correct tools to be successful.   Don’t think that just because you have a blog and sign up for an affiliate program that you are done and are going to start making tons of money. Don’t buy into the hype of these programs saying make 7,000 dollars a month sitting on your couch.

While it is perfectly doable to make that much, it takes work. You get back what you put in. To be successful at affiliate marketing you need a few things to start. An Idea or hobby (your niche), a blog (preferably a paid self-hosted blog as tumbler and blogger can deactivate your account for any reason.), tons of VALUABLE content and traffic. What I mean by valuable content is original content that you created for your audience. Don’t copy other sites content and post it as your own. This is illegal, immoral and google will know if it is copied and won’t rank your site.

Research is one of the most important things you can do when running a niche site. You need to do a bunch of keyword research

to determine what keywords are ranking and how you should use them on your blog. You also need to stay up to date on all things related to your niche.

Joining other sites like Reddit can bring in loads of traffic to your site if you are using it correctly. The thing about niches is they are a community and that is what Reddit and other sites are about community. So don’t go on there and just spam your links to your posts it will give you a bad reputation and people won’t follow you.

So after you have your niche and your blog are set up and you have content you need to find an affiliate program that offers products and services related to your niche. Amazon has a great affiliate program but it is too broad for niche websites in my personal opinion. You want to go for sites that offer a good commission structure but are also not too known already. There are tons of options out there.

Now that you are all set up, start posting affiliate products on your site. Make great content, do extreme keyword research to help your content rank on search engines, and start advertising your blog. You have to spend money to make money and the best way to advertise your blog is Facebook ads. Facebook ads will do wonders for your site. They are very customizable and will enable your ad to reach a specific audience.

To build a residual income from affiliate marketing you need to have the right tools as well. Here are the tools I use to help me in my business. And yes some of these links are affiliate links.

Training – You need constant training and to keep learning in this ever evolving business to stay ahead of the curve and making money. This is the number one tool I use for keyword research, training, support and so much more. Click here to learn more.

Email Marketing service – You need to be collecting emails from people that visit your site in order to keep them engaged and to send offers to. I love Get Response, I use it for all my email campaigns. You can sign up for a free 30-day trail here.

Domains and Hosting for blogs – I personally use Host Gator to host all my sites. They are reliable and very inexpensive. Get your first month of hosting for a penny when you use coupon code LCFaulkner at checkout. Check out Host Gator here.

Advertising – I use multiple methods of advertising:  Facebook ads, Reddit, other blogs, etc. Click here to read how to use Reddit to drive traffic to your site.
